Prevent loss of expensive equipment with RFID Loss Prevention methods

rfid protection The OPI Loss Prevention System protects the retailer’s investment in Customer Facing Technology. A Windows device can be tracked at the Entrance, Exit or Sales Parameter of the selling floor when the asset is equipped with an inexpensive UHF passive RFID Tag. Customer Facing Applications such as self-checkout, self scanning and gift registry which utilize a windows based portable barcode scanner are excellent environments for an RFID based Loss Prevention System. Solution Description Optical Phusion, Inc. (OPI) has integrated a solution that combines the wireless communications capabilities of the MC17 with Motorola’s passive RFID technology and software from OPI. Under this design, an RFID chip is installed in each MC17s. Each chip returns a terminal ID when it passes through The Tracking Portal covered by the RFID readers (Motorola XR-450 readers) and antennas. These zones are placed in the front entrances / exits of each store. When a terminal ID (Frick RFID Tag) is detected by the RFID reader, it passes the information to the OPI Loss Prevention Controller. The OPI Loss Prevention Controller then transmits a command to the proper MC17 device, which causes a loud alarm to sound and an image on the MC17 screen instructs the user to return it to the in-store charging rack. Once the MC17 device is returned to the charging rack, the warnings cease.

Solution Components Motorola MC-17 is a standard handheld scanning terminal which can be configured to scan retail products and return a product description and current retail price.

Motorola XR-450 is an intelligent RFID readerwhich reads a number of tag formats. When equipped with the proper antenna configuration the XR-450 can be placed at the entrance or exit of a retail store or other facility to provide a RFID Tag detection zone and alert the application software.

Frick Passive RFID tag is designed to be mounted under the bezel of the MC-17 to be as non-obtrusive as possible while maintaining the maximum read range when scanned by the Motorola XR-450.

Loss Prevention Controller is a PC server or equivalent device designed to host the RFID Retail Asset Loss Prevention Software and provide network communications to the MC-17, XR-450 and system reporting software.
